Cinnamon Apple Turnovers

Serves: 6 - Cooking Method: Bake - Total Time: 40 minutes

Cinnamon Apple Turnovers - golden, faky, puff pastry is bursting with a tender, cinnamon, apple filling. Serve for brunch, dessert or as an after-school snack. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or drizzle with confectioner's sugar frosting for a bakery look.

Ingredients:

Apples, peeled and chopped into medium cubes – 2 cups
Cinnamon – 1 tsp
Sugar – 2 Tbsp
Nutmeg – ½ tsp
Orange Peel – 1 tsp
Pecans (optional) – ½ cup
Puff Pastry, chilled, cut into 4 inch squares - 6

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375. Line baking sheet with foil, spray with PAM and preheat tray in oven for 10 minutes. Remove hot tray from oven.

1. In medium-sized bowl, mix all ingredients except for puff pastry.

2. Lay puff pastry squares on floured board or parchment paper. Divide apple filling into 6 equal parts and scoop filling into center of each square.

3. Fold the unfilled half of the pastry over the filled half to make a triangle shaped pastry. Press edges with fingers or fork tines to seal.

4. Lightly spray (or brush with melted butter) each turnover on both sides with a coating of PAM. Carefully place each turnover on HOT tray and bake for 12-15 minutes until cooked through and nicely browned, rotating tray once during cooking. Serve hot and garnish with confectioners sugar, whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
